Shakesville: Novak in Hit and Run...and Return and Claim You Didn't Know You Hit and Ran

  • larkohio · 1 year ago
Oh yeah, you hit a guy, and you totally don't know it, happens all the time, right?
He's a mean little man. Does he shoot old guys in the face, too?
  • doktor_wankenstein · 1 year ago
Just tell me the pedestrian wasn't Scooter Libby.
  • f.lynd · 1 year ago
    Holy crap.
He hit someone and only turned around when he realized there were witnesses?

And 'cited by police'? Please tell me there'll be a trial. Please tell me he'll go to jail. Please tell me that the crime of jaywalking is not worse than hitting a pedestrian with your car and then leaving the scene.

Well of course, the important part of the quote was the unspoken part:
"'You hit someone.'" Novak claimed: "I didn't know I hit anybody...while someone was watching "

The other option is to run 'em over, but as a compassionate conservative, I would never do that.

    Compassion is for pinkos.
  • christen · 1 year ago
I hate his stupid compassionate conservative douche face.

I can only hope that the poor bastard he hit sues the everlovin' SHIT out of him... "ow, ow, call my lawyer, I mean, my doctor, ow, ow!!!"

    I agree with chisten!

i hope the victim sues his ass off.

And given that Novak is made of ass, if we're lucky the verdict will cause him to disappear!

Holy crap, I haven't been nearly careful enough crossing the street! I had no idea Bob Novak was out cruising for pedestrians to SPLAY ACROSS THE FRONT OF HIS CONVERTIBLE.

Please, please let this go to trial.
  • Cathexis · 1 year ago
Now, now ... how many times have any of US mistaken a pedestrian for a particularly large bug, when it hit our windshield?!? :-/

(Besides, the last seven years have demonstrated time and again that it isn't a crime when a Republican does it!)
  • Kelley · 1 year ago
Oh, I smell a serious personal injury lawsuit, complete with punitive damages based on Novak having left the scene of the accident. Bwahahahahahahahaha. That will, however, only be the civil aspect of the incident. I'm not sure of the penalties in that particular jurisdiction

outing covert CIA agent = no big deal
jaywalking = worthy of bodily harm, if not death
  • Esme · 1 year ago
Kristen, since being a member of the legal profession is apparently disqualification for the presidency AND grounds to get shot in the face, why should jaywalkers have it easy
  • clio · 1 year ago
    77 years old.
    Known as "aggressive" driver.
Hit and run indicating impaired judgment.
    Simple, really.

Needs to have keys and license taken away.
    He's past it.

Jesus. Now I'm afraid to leave the house.

Think Progress is reporting that pedestrian hit by Novak is in worse condition than the "minor injuries" originally reported.
  • John · 1 year ago
That is really reprehensible. I don't see how Novak could not know he hit someone. If he really didn't know he get his driving skills tested again.

By the way, the ticket that Novak received was for "failure to yield," which right now is a $50 fine, but the DC Council is considering a bill to make the same offense $250 + 3 points. (It's not in response to Novak; I think it's in response to the cyclists that have been getting killed by cars.)

Having grown up in a Third World Country where sidewalks and traffic lights are just a suggestion, and cars run on horns, I can easily see a scenario where something like this happens.

Novacula at a light, someone walks in front of him as he's starting, this unbalances the pedestrian who falls over on the hood. All this at slow speed and nobody is hurt.

In that case, what usually happened was that the ped would slam the car hood with a hand, screaming at the driver, the driver would scream back etc until the driver decided it was time to speed off and that would be that.

Not that I'm saying that it happened this way, but I can see a possibility that he wasn't leaving an injured person on the scene, or where he even thought that police should be involved.

But then again, this is Bob Novak....

    Llynd...

A bicyclist chased him down and stopped his further escape. Just as always, he will evade responsibility if he can...

    Novak cited after hitting pedestrian
By JONATHAN MARTIN & CHRIS FRATES | 7/23/08 2:02 PM EST Updated: 7/23/08 2:02 PM EST Text Size:

Syndicated columnist Robert D. Novak was cited by police after he hit a pedestrian with his black Corvette in downtown Washington, D.C., on Wednesday morning.

A Politico reporter saw Novak in the front of a police car with a citation in his hand; a WJLA-TV crew and reporter saw Novak as well. The pedestrian, a 66-year-old man who was not further identified by authorities, was treated at George Washington University Hospital for minor injuries, according to D.C. Fire and EMS. Novak was later released by police and drove away from the scene.

“I didn’t know I hit him. ... I feel terrible,” a shaken Novak told reporters from Politico and WJLA as he was returning to his car. "He's not dead, that's the main thing." Novak said he was a block away from 18th and K streets Northwest, where the accident occurred, when a bicyclist stopped him and said he had hit someone. He said he was cited for failing to yield the right of way.

The bicyclist was David Bono, a partner at Harkins Cunningham, who was on his usual bike commute to work at 1700 K St. N.W. when he witnessed the accident.

As he traveled east on K Street, crossing 18th, Bono said "a black Corvette convertible with top closed plows into the guy. The guy is sort of splayed into the windshield.”

Bono said that the pedestrian, who was crossing the street on a "Walk" signal and was in the crosswalk, rolled off the windshield and that Novak then made a right into the service lane of K Street. “This car is speeding away. What’s going through my mind is, you just can’t hit a pedestrian and drive away,” Bono said.

He said he chased Novak half a block down K Street, finally caught up with him and then put his bike in front of the car to block it and called 911. Traffic immediately backed up, horns blaring, until commuters behind Novak backed up so he could pull over.

Bono said that throughout, Novak "keeps trying to get away. He keeps trying to go.” He said he vaguely recognized the longtime political reporter and columnist as a news personality but could not precisely place him.

Finally, Bono said, Novak put his head out the window of his car and motioned him over. Bono said he told him that you can't hit a pedestrian and just drive away. He quoted Novak as responding: “I didn’t see him there.”

A concierge at 1700 K Street said that she saw a bicyclist yelling and walked outside to see what the commotion was about.

"This guy hit somebody and he won't stop so I'm going to stay here until the police come," Aleta Petty quoted Bono as saying, as he stood in K Street, blocking traffic.

    Fucking WANKER

Jeez, get off the sidewalks. Hell, get out of your front yards. He was really going to leave that guy, wasn't he? How much have these asholes gotten away with? How much don't we know?
  • wiggles · 1 year ago
Novack's trying to get away with a hit and run is wankstainish enough, but he drives a black Corvette?! That's just icing on the wankstain cake.

"Syndicated political columnist and television pundit Robert D. Novak was issued a $50 traffic citation yesterday after he struck and slightly injured a pedestrian while driving his sports car in downtown Washington, police said."

    So there you go. Justice.
  • Bruce A. · 1 year ago
wiggles, of course he drives a black Corvette. He's "The Prince of Darkness", remember?

I love David Bono with big squishy hugs of admiration.

Oh, well, they really threw the book at him, didn't they. I know I feel equally protected under the law as a person of modest means and influence . Hows about you?

There is also the likelihood of civil litigation, which could get kind of expensive for Novak.

By the way, the victim is a homeless 86 year-old man. The article doesn't go into much detail about how badly he was injured.
