Ginormous Douche Opens Mouth, Spews Bullshit

Started by Melissa McEwan · 1 month ago

Michael "Savage" Weiner is at it again, slinging his hate and ignorance at another defenseless group. Who's his target this time? Kids. Not just any kids. Sick kids. Autistic kids. According to Weiner, autistic children don't suffer a horrible medical condition, they're just "brats":

"I'll

  • Wow. Every time I hear about this guy, I figure it can't get any worse and then he hits a new low.
  • Wow.
No finer example of compassionate conservatism exists.
He is more than a ginormous douche.
He is a bloviated ginormous douche.
  • The dent in my desk just keeps getting deeper and wider.
  • He's on the air because this garbage is what the overgrown infants called "conservatives" want to hear--that white guys are deserving and everyone else is here on sufferance.

    Feh.
  • "Remind me again why this guy is still on the air?"

Because we haven't taken him off, yet.

Sean Hannity worries daily that rightwing talk radio will be taken off the air if Libruls take over. I vote "yes, please". It's not censorship, it's self-protection. These people are demonstrably poisonous.
  • Just curious -- I don't know enough about him to make a guess (mostly because everything I've ever heard makes me want to scream and punch), but do you suppose he actually believes his own bullshit, or that he's more like a Coulter type who will say anything for publicity? Not that either would excuse this vile crap -- it's wrong and sick and hateful no matter why he does it -- but I was just wondering.

OtherCara, I think you have a point, but I bet there are even some conservatives with autistic children who won't be too pleased with Savage's professional diagnosis, despite all the compelling factual evidence he provides.
  • Remind me again why this guy is still on the air?

Because he is simply saying what Today's GOP feels and believes and stands for and they are willing to pay him to do it, with just enough spittle-spraying craziness to give them plausible deniability if needed, while still getting the message out to the base that the white men are not gonna give up absolute power anytime soon?
  • I'm just curious: if this guy supports McCain, why aren't we backing McCain into a corner to repudiate him?

In fact, why aren't we doing that with all the firebrand neocons?
  • Savage's idiocy should be publicized among Independents and suburban GOP voters. I've noted that most of the visible agitation regarding the "autism epidemic" seems to be coming from upper middle class white folks.
This could be pitched as another case of the conservative "leadership" being out of touch with potential voters - similar to what happened around Terri Schiavo - when the GOP Congress/Bush jumped on the "pro-life" bandwagon led by a religious freakshow - and found out that the vast majority of the public, including "values voters" were appalled.
  • Apparently he didn't listen to the "don't behave like a fool" and "don't sound like an idiot" parts.
  • Of course, autism isn't a horrible medical condition.

    Love,
    An Autistic Adult
  • poor choice of words on my part, no doubt. my apologies. i've changed that phrase to something more accurate.
  • >Savage's idiocy should be publicized among Independents and suburban GOP voters

Cparis, I'd take that one step further: I want BILLBOARDS with QUOTES of this scary, poisonous pig over major cities nationwide (I take that back - apologies to our porcine brethren - you are clean and smart and trainable and semi-aquatic). Yeah, some people would likely tune in to his program waiting to witness a trainwreck moment, but enough people would get pissed off.
  • Older homes and apartment complexes that slum lords don't do routine maintenance on, filled with flaking lead paint, mold, dust. Gee, I wonder why poor kids have asthma.
  • send him my way, I gots somethings to say to him...
  • Remind me again why this guy is still on the air?

Ratings. The guy gets millions of listeners a week, which sells ads. If anything is more depressing that this man's spew, it must be the fact that he has such a large audience for it.

Anna, I understand the desire that Savage be off the air, but if he is taken off by governmental power, that is censorship. If he loses his mike because people quit listening to him, that's economics. As much as I loathe Savage, I cannot support granting the government the power to take anyone off the air for their opinions or views, no matter how repugnant. It is a certainty that power would eventually be used against myself and people I support.
  • As the aunt of a wonderful human being who happens to be autistic, I invite Michael Savage to fuck right the fuck off.
  • Steph Mineart--I believe there's a direct correlation between exposure to cockroach allergens and asthma levels in children. http://www.nih.gov/news/pr/mar2005/niehs-08.htm

But, of course, the NIH is just lying or something. Or so Michael Savage would say.
  • vile disgusting vomit inducing pathetic creepy nasty bastard
  • "I'll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they're silent? They don't have a father around to tell them, 'Don't act like a moron. You'll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don't sit there crying and screaming, idiot.'"

Yes indeed, my autistic sister's problem is that my dad never told her to act like a man. I'm so fucking grateful that this douchebag was able to share his profound insights with the world, I'll just run right over to my parents' house and tell them that their worries are over.

I am literally shaking with rage. This fucker has clearly never even met someone with autism, much less had it affect someone he loves.
  • That's what you should raise your children with. Stop with the sensitivity training. You're turning your son into a girl

    All children are boys????
  • I haven't heard anything so offensive in quite a while. What a vile, horrid person he must be.
  • FUCK YOU, Savage.

    *incoherent, spluttering rage*
  • This individual is the human equivalent of the crud that builds up on the bottom of garbage cans after a few years. I would almost like to see him work in a poor school district for a few years to see exactly how these kids are "faking it", but I fear what his corrosive presence would do to the children.

    All children are boys????

Only the ones worth caring about.
  • Having lived with an irrational abuser, I think that's what he sounds like. This almost needs a trigger warning.

    And Misty wins the thread.
  • Wow. I'll just call up my Aspie friend and say "Friend, you know how you could never learn to drive a car because of your Asperger's syndrome? Well, according to Savage, there's no such thing as Asperger's, so quit faking it and get out and drive!"
  • It's such a beguilingly simple solution--just suck it up and deal! No muss or fuss with the actual complexity of neurobiology or socioeconomic reality, our woefully wanting healthcare delivery system, systemic bias, etc. Because grappling with those problems as they are "on the ground" is difficult and messy and slow, not politically sexy and definitely not able to be compressed into those snappy little talking points and sound bites that reactionary wank stains like Savage and his ilk so favor. Owning your shit is hard work, and it's so much easier to just talk out your privileged, ignorant ass, especially when you are rewarded with money, ratings, and accolades for being edgy and "outrageous".

Seriously, every time I hear that guy I feel like I will never be clean again.
  • Wow... My temper's been under good control all day too, now its in overdrive.

Mr. Savage, hows about you and I have a little heart to heart talk? No? How about a good fist-to-face one? No its ok, I really don't mind.
  • @Adventuregrrl - I'll second that notion. Its like walking unprotected into a vat of raw sewage.
  • Michael Savage's father sounds like such a delightful human being. And look what a wonderful job he did of turning out a deliberately ignorant, hateful, vomit-inducing, sewage-spewing adult from the innocent moldable child he was given.

As soon as I want my children to turn out sociopathic, I'll get right on using his parenting methods.
  • But, of course, the NIH is just lying or something. Or so Michael Savage would say.

Unless the NIH came out with something that predominantly affected white boys, then this douche and his douchey ilk would rail about what a national emergency that is and how we have to devote all our resources and energy to combating it.
ETA: See: The "Boy Crisis" in schools; It's not that centuries of white male entitlement have led white boys to slack - because they could get away with it - while white girls and children of color have worked harder to succeed academically - because they've had to. It's that white girls and children of color are favored over white boys and get all the breaks.
  • My oldest boy has Asperger's Syndrome, and it's real, and I know half a dozen parents who have children with autism.

    It's real for them too.

Autism Spectrum disorders here in the early 21st century are like dyslexia in the 1960s and 1970s. Psychologists and schools are finally getting their minds around what it is, and providing programs and books and organizations to help out. The adults in their 30s and 40s now are the first generation of dyslexia who benefited from its diagnosis and school and psychology programs that helped them in real ways.

My hope is that my child will be saying that in 20 or 30 years....

I recommend that Michael "Weiner" Savage spend a couple of days being a parent of one of these children to find out what it's really like. As they say, until you've walked a mile in our moccassins....

He still hides behind his microphone, a true coward.
  • But of course Wiggles! What, you mean non-male non-white people are important?! Pfft, get back in your place!

Ugh, even typing that makes me nauseous <x.x>

    Seriously. Hate. The. World.
  • Oh, I think it's time to refer this to the Autistic Liberation Front... Not, of course, that any such organization exists.
  • As the mom of an Aspie, this is the kind of shit that really cuts deep when it comes from people you love (from people like him no, but that's where they get it). In the years it took before my son was diagnosed, that is exactly what we had to deal with: "Oh, you need to control him more." "You need to show him who's boss". "You can't let him get away with that." "He's just a bad kid." "Just let him cry it out." WELL FUCK OFF MICHAEL SAVAGE.
  • going back to heidi's comment for a moment: but do you suppose he actually believes his own bullshit...

It doesn't matter, really, if he does or doesn't. He's spewing this rancid hate out onto the airwaves, and some dude sitting in his car, angry at the world for not being everything it was supposed to be for him, is nodding his head and thinking 'yeah, this shit's not my fault! It's those gays/women/minorities/poor people/brown people/foreigners who are fucking everything up!"

And then it propagates. and then there's just folks saying "well EVERYONE KNOWS it's the fault of ..." because they hear it and see it in the media and it validates piles of shit like Savage spewing more bile because, hey, that's what people want, right?

    -.-
  • I fully expect Weiner's next screed to be: What's With Those Lazy Fucks and Their "Cancer"?
  • Save your phone calls, letters and emails, folks; d00d needs to get Spockoed: http://www.spockosbrain.com/

    1. Get list of advertisers on this heinous program.
    2. Record d00d being heinous.
    3. Get in touch with advertisers, play recordings, ask them if this is what they want their product to be associated with.
    4. Advertisers pull their spots from the program, or at least chew out the stations/syndication company, leading to...
    (potential) LOSS OF PROFIT!!one!

Optimal desired outcome: Contract 'not renewed.' Sometimes the best you can get is an apology, but at least the d00d is getting smacked by his bosses. Believe me, these guys hate having to apologize. Or even pretend to apologize, a la Chris Matthews. Makes them appear less powerful and tough and independent and fearless and not-PC. Feh.

There is, however, the risk of retaliation. Spocko can tell you all about that, too. But he didn't back down. I admire him greatly. The Ginormous Douche in the OP? Not so much.
  • This is also the guy who thinks fat people should be in concentration camps. He makes Rush Limbaugh sound like Walter Cronkite.

And yeah, the whole reason I'm Aspie (and didn't get a diagnosis until I was forty-four) -- is because I didn't have parents and grandparents and aunts and teachers and shrinks and bosses or whoever sitting there screaming at me, "ACT NORMAL ALREADY GODDAMNIT! WHAT THE HELL IS THE MATTER WITH YOU?!?!" Nobody ever thought to do that with me ever, no sirree. Certainly I was never ever punished for my Aspie traits at home, no never. Never lost my allowance over and over again, never got locked up in my room, never got yelled at, never got the silent treatment, never got told what a terrible person I was and what an embarrassment I was to my family, never ever. Nobody ever told me I'd never amount to anything if I didn't become more sociable, no way. I didn't have to learn to mask the whole thing for decades because Aspie women weren't even accepted in freak circles, nope. They just patted me on the head and said, "Good little snowflake," and now, here I am, still all Aspie and stuff. Terrible thing that I know now what nobody knew then, innit?
  • "Oh, I think it's time to refer this to the Autistic Liberation Front... Not, of course, that any such organization exists."

Actually, there is at least one such organization, and other people interested in starting similar organizations. There's a huge autistic-spectrum-oriented webspace I learned about through my self-diagnosed aspie boyfriend and my self-diagnosed aspie internet friend.

    Tell these guys:
    http://www.aspiesforfreedom.com

And they can put this Weiner dude on their hater thread.
  • Oh wait...they already know.
  • Wow, Meowser, just think, if Savage'd been around to tell you not to act like a girl and quit the act, you'd have been all normal and shit!
Seriously that guy should be in therapy, not in any form of media.
    *headdesk*
  • Yup. He's a sick man, that Mr. Weiner. I occasionally listen to him on my AM dial when driving just to keep me awake. He hates the Republicans and the Democrats, so no points against McSame.
  • As the mother of an Aspie son, who is one of the strongest, most compassionate and intelligent people I know, and the sister of an undiagnosed suspected-Aspie brother, I formally invite that savage Weiner McAsshole to say that unmitigated bullshit to my face, so I can show him what "Savage" really looks like.

The uncivillized, inhuman twit is aptly named, I'll give him that much!

    Bast
  • JoAsakura: I know it doesn't matter as far as the effects of what he's saying. But the optimist in me is thinking, if he really believes it, presumably he has reasons for doing so, and so maybe if given reasons to the contrary his mind could be changed? Like if he actually met an autistic person, or spoke to a doctor who specializes in autism or something.

I'm probably giving him way too much credit though, aren't I? After all nothing I've ever heard from him gives any indication that he's a reasonable person.
  • ::Pukes::

So according to this sexist asshole:

All children with Autism are boys.

All children, period, are boys (unless they were born with the defect known as Vagina).

Children misbehave (i.e. have Autism) because their weak-ass moms aren't capable of disciplining them correctly, and their dads aren't around (presumably because their horrible mothers unfairly kicked them out).

This ignorant bullshit is not only terribly offensive to Autistic people and their families, but to the entire female sex.
And does it sound like he's confusing Autism with ADHD?
  • That's what you should raise your children with. Stop with the sensitivity training. You're turning your son into a girl.

and we all know that GIRLZ ARE THE WORST THING YOU CAN BEEEEEEEE! yucky bitchez!

mmhmm. methinks Savage could use a bit of "correction" from Shark-fu. ;-)
  • I disagree with his 1st and 3rd points, but I do agree with this kind-of...he has a point:

"[I]f I behaved like a fool, my father called me a fool. And he said to me, 'Don't behave like a fool.' The worst thing he said -- 'Don't behave like a fool. Don't be anybody's dummy. Don't sound like an idiot. Don't act like a girl. Don't cry.' That's what I was raised with. That's what you should raise your children with. Stop with the sensitivity training. You're turning your son into a girl, and you're turning your nation into a nation of losers and beaten men. That's why we have the politicians we have."
  • I do agree with this kind-of...he has a point:

His "point" is that berating children is a soudn parenting technique, that being a girl is bad, and that crying is wrong. If you're with Weiner, what the fuck are you doing here?
  • What a dumbfuck.
  • Lyonside has a point--we should have billboards with Savages quotes on them and then phone numbers to call and complain to his sponsors. Why don't we all get our teaspoons and raise some money? We can get him off the air. We can complain and we can get others to complain.
  • Remind me again why this guy is still on the air?

Our corporate overlords like to keep as many people stupid and distracted as possible. It's easier that way.

"They don't have a father around to tell them, 'Don't act like a moron. You'll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don't sit there crying and screaming, idiot.'"

Yeah, because it obviously worked so well in Savage's case. NOT. He's the poster boy for why not to do this to our sons (or any child, obviously).
  • OtherCara, I think you have a point, but I bet there are even some conservatives with autistic children who won't be too pleased with Savage's professional diagnosis, despite all the compelling factual evidence he provides.

I agree, Heidi. Still, the idea that "it's not real unless it happens to me or mine" is a typically conservative outlook. The "compelling factual evidence" (hee) usually boils down to "I've never experienced it, it never happened when I was a kid (never mind that you don't know everything when you're a kid), so it's not happening NOW."
  • I am literally shaking with rage. Fuck Savage and his fucking fucked up hate-speech. And yes, I believe that this is hate speech, pure and simple. It will be used by bullies to justify the torture of autistic kids and adults. It will be used to justify denial of support for and accommodation of the needs of autistic kids and adults.

And for that reason, I do think that he should lose his job, and I don't think that that it would be "censorship" if he did -- here's why: What he's saying is factually inaccurate, and dangerously so -- autism is already a very misunderstood state of consciousness (I refuse to call it a "disease" or an "illness"). Autistic people are already discriminated against, routinely denied the most basic of human rights, and many have been physically and psychologically abused by a system that does not understand how to deal with them. Savage throws incredibly incendiary fuel onto that fire, and that is absolutely, positively morally and socially irresponsible.
  • Nevin, WTF? Stop with the sensitivity training. You're turning your son into a girl, and you're turning your nation into a nation of losers and beaten men.
You agree with this? This is some unmitigated crap. I agree that kids shouldn't be allowed to run amok and all, but you posted the whole quote. Which presumably means you agree with that part, too. So again, WTFF?
  • Lemur, I'm pretty sure that Nevin's a troll. Check out the comment history -- "Rachael Madcow", etc..
  • I agree PD, insofar as what Savage is saying IS Hate Speech; but his losing his job *has* to come from either his employer being made to feel embarrassed by him (ie: we make him a liability to them) - or we have to hammer his sponsors until they stop supporting him.

We can't let the government choose what is and isn't OK speech - even when its something this utterly horrid; simply because once you give the government a power; getting it back is almost impossible.

Its not that the government hasn't censored things in violation of free-speech rights before; they most certainly have - but if we at any stage approve of the government doing it; then it becomes infinitely harder when that power is turned back on us. And we KNOW it will be; we on the left are the first targets when the government suddenly gets to decide some ideas are 'dangerous'.

So destroying Savage has to come from us, making his sponsors and his employer see him as a liability rather than an asset. Spocko I think pretty much has "the" plan when it comes to taking on right-wing assholes.

Besides, it allows us a nice bit of bragging rights as well; when they whine about "censorship" (its not of course, its us exercising our free-speech to counter a detestable bigot) - we can just say "Hey, its just the market at work." They don't like it so much when the all powerful "market" goes against them. (Hey, I may be a dirty commie; but when you've got a tool in the drawer that's both ethical and poetic...)
  • I gotta wonder - what's up with the trolls lately? They seem to get less intelligent by the day. Weaving in and out of threads, in one thread feigning agreement with us (at least in part) and then attempting to raise a point completely antithetical to the discussion Then in other threads they do the more traditional trollish screeching "OMG U STUPID LIBRULS I HOPE U DIE"

<. .> I mean I know they think we're stupid; but seriously... its just kinda sad to watch.
  • Totally agree with Portly.

    That's it.
  • "but his losing his job *has* to come from either his employer being made to feel embarrassed by him or we have to hammer his sponsors until they stop supporting him."

I don't agree. If his boss fires him simply for practicing hate speech, that's not censorship in the least. It's "free enterprise". Most speech practiced on the job is not protected speech, and this is this guy's job we're talking about -- it's not the public square, it's not a government protest.

Personally, I'm in favor of government hate speech legislation when it comes to the FCC and public airwaves. I think that people should not be free to spout inaccurate and inflammatory speech about an entire group of people, nor to recommend/incite detrimental action toward them. Savage not only expresses his "opinion" (not owned as such) that 99% of autistic people are "faking" it, but recommends treatment of those people which is capable of causing horrible damage. To me, that's incitement to hateful action.
  • I gotta wonder - what's up with the trolls lately? They seem to get less intelligent by the day.

Yeah, well you would too, if you listened to Michael Weiner and Rush Limbaugh all day. Beavis and Butthead are made of brainier stuff, and they're better looking too.
  • Thanks PD, I should have checked. I know better than to feed the troll. My bad. =)
  • I always wanted to call up Michael Savage and say, in a Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel voice:

"Ain't you the guy who writes that gay column that's in that there artsy-farsty paper?"

But after reading this, I don't think he's worth wasting the joke.
  • I almost hope this is just Coulter-esque bid for publicity. I can't imagine what kind of putrid soul could say this shit sincerely.
  • @PD - I certainly agree he needs to lose his job; and maybe I misunderstood what you were saying a bit. I will admit - I do have strong concerns where free speech is at issue, simply because I know full well how easily rules designed to protect people from slander can be turned to prevent the slandered from being able to speak for themselves

Its definitely not censorship if he loses his job through his employer (Sorry if I wasn't clear there <;.;> Thats why I was advocating that approach); and if we had hatespeech regulations covering public airwaves - I'm quite cool with that; broadcasting bile isn't a right after all.

I guess it'd just have to be crafted carefully. I wouldn't want to see that kind of legislation used to clam people up who have legitimate, non-hateful points to make.

So I guess - I don't disagree with you, but I will say its an area I feel we'd need to tread cautiously. We've all seen how a small group of determined crooks can pretty much take over our system when our representatives refuse to do their job (and I'm well beyond expecting that from them anytime soon).

@Graham - Thats true... hell, just reading quotes from either of them I can feel my brain cells melting.
